We ask Stephen the important stuff
2025, March
1. What’s your favourite Amsterdam neighbourhood to shoot?
I really enjoy shooting in De Pijp. The mix of cultures, the lively street markets, and the contrast between old architecture and modern touches make it a dynamic and ever-changing environment to photograph.
2. Which secret spot would you recommend (now not secret anymore)?
There’s a quiet little alley near Oudemanhuispoort, tucked between book stalls and old buildings it has beautiful light in the early afternoon and often goes unnoticed by most people passing by.
3. What’s your most memorable streetphotography experience from the past year?
Last summer, I was photographing at a hot summerday the marine area. The nu energy was incredible people started dancing, kids were playing in the water, and the moment felt like a scene from a movie. I managed to capture a series of candid, emotional frames that still feel special.
4. Which type of images are you currently shooting?
Lately, I’ve been focusing on contrasts and human gestures moments where people interact with light, reflections, or shadows in interesting ways. I’m also exploring more moody black-and-white storytelling with tighter compositions.
5. Which (street)photographer inspires you?
I’m inspired by Kader Sadhik his work captures honest, grounded stories with emotion and depth. His approach to documentary photography resonates with how I see and want to capture the world.
